BBC America
I decided to watch BBCA which over the last 6 months I've grown to like more and more. There shows span from Europe which are more original to me and aim towards what I look for in shows which is science fiction. I chose to use my hour of watching TV to watch one of my favorite shows, Doctor Who.
For those that have never hear of BBCA; BBCA shows programs such as Top Gear (a show about people pushing the limits of speed in all forms of vehicles), Doctor Who (about a time traveler and his adventures), Sherlock (A show about a modern day Sherlock Holmes) and many others. The SyFy channel does many of the same shows shown on BBCA only reenacted with American actors.
Since BBCA offers all different types of programs (documentary, science fiction, reality, drama, etc.), it shows a wide range of commercials. Some of these can be found on other major cable channels like The CW, Spike, and Adult Swim. While others can only be found only on the BBCA network. Below I've included some of the commercials I've only seen advertised on the BBCA since they are promo just for their shows.

Since BBCA stands for the Better British Channel America, their commercials for the most part show advertisements for many of the companies found in the US only with British actors. Having said that there are many similarities to our commercials like advertisements for Dyson vacuums or Ford vehicles which are the same ads found on the other major networks. Some like I said however have British actors or actresses, below are some commercials depicting what I just said.

  • Length: Most comercials shown on BBCA are the same lengh as any other commercial, however some last more than a minute to a minute and a half. Those commercials that are longer usually are promoting one of their long lasting shows or what is new to the channel.
  • Format: Like I said above many of their commercials are the same as any other channels with the exception of some of them being directed at their demographics or shows.
  • Creativity: As far as creativity goes they are very similar to any other station unless they are advertising their shows. A great example is the link above about Whovians which Im proud to admit Im one of.
  • Objectives: Their goal is to advertise to any and all demographics viewing their programming so like I've said above they show ads that aim to both Americans and British viewers.
